About this tour
Trade tangled city itineraries for a straight shot into the Sahara. This privately chauffeured four-day route connects Casablanca’s airport directly to the rolling Erg Chebbi dunes, then carries you through gorges, palm valleys and the High Atlas into Marrakech. No diversions just Morocco’s wildest landscapes, delivered efficiently and comfortably.
Why this route stands out
You’ll be sleeping among the sand peaks on your second night, not your fourth. A luxury camp, both sunset and sunrise camel treks, the Middle Atlas cedar forests, Todra Gorge, the thousand-kasbah road and UNESCO-listed Aït Ben Haddou all slot into four lean, scenic days. Every mile is driven in your own air-conditioned vehicle, with an English-speaking driver-guide who knows exactly when to stop for the best views.
Day-by-day on the express Sahara circuit
Day 1 – Casablanca to Midelt, via the cedar forests
Your driver meets you at Mohammed V Airport (or your hotel) and heads straight into the Middle Atlas. The first pause is Ifrane, Morocco’s unexpected alpine town, before you reach Azrou’s ancient cedars and the Barbary macaques that scamper beside the road. The afternoon unwinds in Midelt, a mountain-edged agricultural town where you’ll check into a comfortable ensuite hotel with dinner included.
Driving time: approx. 6 hours. Overnight: Midelt, half-board.
Day 2 – Midelt to Erg Chebbi luxury camp
After breakfast, the road drops into the vast Ziz Valley, a corridor of date palms and cliffside ksour. Passing through fossil-rich Erfoud, you reach Merzouga where the tarmac ends. A camel caravan leads you across the dunes as the sun sets gold deepening to amber, then rose. Your private tent at the luxury camp comes with a real bed, hot shower, crisp linens and electricity. Dinner is served beneath the stars, followed by Berber drumming around the fire.
Driving time: approx. 5 hours. Overnight: Erg Chebbi luxury camp, half-board.
Day 3 – Erg Chebbi to Dades Valley
Rise early for a sunrise camel ride and the kind of silence only the desert delivers. After breakfast, travel to Rissani’s lively dates market, then follow the palm-fringed Tinghir oasis on foot. The day’s geological highlight is Todra Gorge, where sheer limestone walls rise 300 metres overhead. Lunch with a canyon view, then onward along the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs to the Dades Valley and a well-located hotel for dinner.
Driving time: approx. 4 hours. Overnight: Dades Valley, half-board.
Day 4 – Dades Valley to Marrakech over the High Atlas
Morning takes you through the Valley of the Roses and the Skoura oasis, with a stop at the beautifully preserved Kasbah Amridil. The main act is Aït Ben Haddou, the fortified mud-brick ksar that has starred in Gladiator and Game of Thrones. A local guide walks you inside the UNESCO site. Afterwards, the route climbs over the High Atlas at Tizi n’Tichka pass (2,260m), descending into Marrakech by late afternoon for drop-off at your riad or hotel.
Driving time: approx. 6 hours.
