About this tour
Some journeys deserve more than a checklist. The classic Marrakech to Merzouga route can be squeezed into three days, but that means long hours on the road and retracing the same asphalt back to the city. Add one extra day and everything changes. You get a full-circle route through Morocco’s deepest south, shorter daily drives, a night in Ouarzazate, and three places the three‑day trip simply cannot reach: the palm‑filled Draa Valley, the secret kasbah of Telouet, and the cool green oasis of Skoura. No road repeated. No scenery rushed.
About this tour
A single extra day transforms the classic route into a full loop, adding the Draa Valley, Telouet, and Skoura – three places the three‑day tour never reaches.
Most Marrakech‑Merzouga trips squeeze into three long days, forcing you to retrace the High Atlas twice. That works, but it rushes the south. By stretching to four days, you trace a circular loop that never repeats a road. You gain the Draa Valley, a corridor of a million date palms and mud‑brick kasbahs that once watered the caravans. You sleep in Ouarzazate, and on the final morning you walk inside Aït Ben Haddou with a local guide, then discover the crumbling grandeur of Telouet, the forgotten palace of the Glaoui pasha. Every day feels unhurried because the driving is short and the stops are deep.

Day 01
Day 1 of 4
High Atlas to Dades Gorge
Marrakech, Tizi n’Tichka, Skoura oasis, Dades Valley
Your driver collects you from your riad around eight. The climb over the High Atlas through the Tizi n’Tichka pass is full of hairpins and wide‑angle views; we pause in a Berber village for mint tea and mountain air. After a first glimpse of Aït Ben Haddou from the road, you turn into the cool green maze of the Skoura oasis. Here a local guide walks you through Kasbah Amridil, explaining centuries‑old irrigation channels and Saharan building techniques. The afternoon carries you past the Rose Valley and into the Dades canyons, where a hotel balcony overlooks the gorge. Dinner is served with the sound of the river below.

Day 02
Day 2 of 4
Gorges, fossils and the dunes
Todgha Gorges, Erfoud, Rissani, Erg Chebbi
The morning is short and spectacular. You walk the floor of the Todgha Gorges, limestone walls rising three hundred metres on either side, the light bouncing off the rock. Then the landscape opens into the pre‑Saharan plains. In Erfoud you can watch artisans polish fossils older than the mountains, and in Rissani you sense the pulse of the old trading town. By late afternoon the dunes of Erg Chebbi appear on the horizon. Camels are waiting. You ride into the sand as the colours shift from gold to amber to rose, and you sleep in a private ensuite tent with a hot shower and real beds. Said, a Merzouga native who runs this company, grew up just beyond these dunes; he makes sure the camp feels like a Berber home under a sky thick with stars. After dinner, drums and sandboarding fill the night if you want them.

Day 03
Day 3 of 4
Sunrise on the sand, then the Draa Valley
Erg Chebbi, Anti‑Atlas, Nkob, Agdz, Ouarzazate
The desert wakes you before dawn. You climb back onto a camel and watch the sun lift over the dunes, the sand turning cool blue then warm gold. After breakfast you cross the volcanic Anti‑Atlas and drop into the Draa Valley, Morocco’s longest river valley. Palms stretch to the horizon, broken by the ochre ksour of Nkob and Agdz. This is the day a three‑day tour never sees. By early evening you are in Ouarzazate, checked into a comfortable riad, dinner waiting.

Day 04
Day 4 of 4
Aït Ben Haddou and Telouet, then home
Aït Ben Haddou, Telouet, High Atlas, Marrakech
The final morning belongs to Aït Ben Haddou. Now you walk it properly – up to the old granary, through the alleys, meeting families who still live inside this cinematic fortress. Then the road climbs to Telouet, the kasbah of the Glaoui warlord, its zellige and stucco work decaying in near solitude. After a quiet lunch, the High Atlas crossing back to Marrakech in afternoon light feels like a slow farewell. You arrive in the city with red sand still in your shoes and a map of the south behind your eyes.
